As we gear up for Fall favorites like – candy corn, pumpkins, and trick or treaters, we immediately think of the best ways to create a meaningful first impression for potential buyers.
Here are five ways to add instant curb appeal and a weekend Fall Plant Sale you will not want to miss!
- Symmetry is everything! No matter the look of your home, providing two focal points on either side of the entry way is always an impactful way to greet guests if they dare to enter! The Birmingham Botanical Gardens will have a variety of tough foundational shrubs as well as blooming trees and perennials ready for your fall planting plan. Feel free to bring a picture of your home and yard to show their volunteers—many of whom are Master Gardeners- if you’re looking for recommendations.
A pop of color is a festive way to add intrigue and to create warmth as potential buyers pass by your home. Our friends at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens shared that every yard varies depending on sun, shade, and soil, but for many, having nicely trimmed structural plants around the front of the home with pops of color is a foolproof strategy. Consider painting your front door to add the much-needed pop of color or plants that can be found at the sale.
Ding dong…doormats are the best way to create excitement for potential trick or treaters and can be humorous or seasonal.Doormats provide a fun way to not bring the outside, inside your home and frames your front door.
Love your landscape again! Keep your yard tidy and be sure to clear the pathways to the entry points of your home. It’s the little things like raking leaves, picking up limbs and keeping the grass freshly cut. According to Mindy Black, Director of Communications and Marketing at the BirminghamBotanical Gardens, “What you want to look for are plants with extended seasonal interest. Many trees with fabulous fall color also have a beautiful spring bloom and stunning architectural structure for the winter. Dogwoods, Serviceberry trees, Lenten roses, American Beauty Berry, and Alabama Croton are great examples of hardworking plants that do well in our region through all four seasons.”
5. Fall décor is great! However, you do not want to overdue your love of the season on your front porch. Keep it seasonal but be mindful of how many decorations you are placing around your front door. You do not want to detract from the beauty of your home. Do add a seasonal wreath, pumpkins, gourds or mums.
We stopped by the Birmingham Botanical Gardens to ask a few questions about this weekend’s upcoming sale. The Fall Plant Sale will take place Saturday, September 14th, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday, September 15th, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens.
The sale also features their annual Member Plant Giveaway - a special thank you to members of the
Friends of Birmingham Botanical Gardens, whose support each year makes a lasting impact throughout the Gardens. Stop by their membership table to become a Friend of the Gardens and you’ll receive a free plant courtesy of Van Der Giessen Nursery! Your purchases and membership benefit the ongoing stewardship and enhancement of the Gardens, as well as educational programs and outreach activities.
