CanopyTitle is making strides by teaming up with the American Land Title Association to give back. Click Here to learn how.
In January, 2021, more than 50 qualified 501c3 applications were carefully considered to receive a $6,000 grant. This grant would be given by the ALTA Good Deeds Foundation, which was formally founded in 2020, by the American Land Title Association (ALTA). “The Foundation’s purpose is to bolster the charitable efforts of title and settlement professionals and help people with housing needs as well as those adversely impacted by national emergencies, such as the COID-19 pademic,” shares Mary O’Donnell, Chair of the ALTA Good Deeds Foundation.
“My family and I have donated money and time to the Be a Blessing Birmingham organization over the years because we believe in Erica Robbins, the Founder. When I learned about the opportunity with the ALTA Good Deeds Foundation, I knew I had to go to work and nominate Be a Blessing Birmingham. We are thrilled the organization is selected to receive a $6,000 grant,” shared Amye von Seebach, President of CanopyTitle, LLC (previously named TitleSouth, LLC, at the time of the nomination in January, 2021). CanopyTitle, LLC, is part of the RealtySouth family of services, and each year RealtySouth makes philanthropic endowments, and has commited to add an additional 50% of the total grant, bringing the full amount up to $9,000.
“They are still citizens of Birmingham and they deserve to be treated with respect, and we are thrilled and honored to accept the $9,000 grant on behalf of our mission and to continue to support our neighbors,” shares Erica Robbins, the Founder of Be a Blessing Birmingham.
On Thursday, March 18, 2021, the formal announcement of grant recipients was made at the ALTA March Springboard conference. “We are so impressed by the passion and commitment of title industry professionals to improve their communities. Our members are, and always have been, extremely involved in strengthening communities. We are proud and excited to support and build upon their and Be a Blessing Birmingham efforts,” announces O’Donnell. Diane Tomb, ALTA’s CEO, shared: “Being a Blessing Birmingham, nominated by Amye von Seebach, really stood out from the rest.”
In 2013, Robbins started a conversation with a man that lived under a Birmingham bridge. His story is not much different than many of the homeless population, he suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder after serving in the military. He was married and had children. After returning home from war, he was unable to be confined to small spaces. He only felt comfortable outside. Robbins reached out to ask her friends and family to help collect essential hygiene items. She would drive around the city looking for people who needed donations. Eventually, they began looking for her. This was the beginning of Be A Blessing Birmingham. “Our mission statement is to bring awareness to and garner community support for the homeless community in Greater Birmingham, Alabama,” Robbins stated, “and this generous contribution will go a very long way to help sustain our mission and touch many lives in the coming months. Thank you Amye von Seebach for the nomination; ALTA Good Deeds Foundation for the $6,000 grant, and for RealtySouth’s additional endowment bringing the total to $9,000.”
